What if one hour of your time could stop a family’s world from changing in an instant?
Not in a dramatic, movie-screen way. But in a real, human way. The kind of way that keeps a teenager’s heart beating. The kind of way that lets a mother sleep soundly because her child is still here. That kind of power? You already have it.
Justin’s Story: From Joy to Legacy
Justin Johnson was not a diagnosis. He was joy in motion. A good student. A loyal friend. A son who made people laugh even on the hard days. He lived with sickle cell disease, and he was brave about it—not because he wanted to be, but because he had to be. Shortly before his seventeenth birthday, friends knocked on his door to play tag. No harm meant. No awareness of the risk. But the sudden exertion triggered a severe crisis. Justin’s body couldn’t get the oxygen it needed. In minutes, everything changed. His father, Orville O. Johnson, made a promise that day: Justin’s story would not end in silence. That pain would become purpose. And the Justin Johnson Legacy Foundation was born.
Why This Blood Drive Matters
On May 2nd, we’re holding a blood drive. But it’s not just about filling bags or meeting a quota.
It’s about what that blood does next.
For someone with sickle cell disease, healthy red blood cells are like medicine. Regular transfusions can mean less pain, fewer hospital stays, and more birthdays. For families like Justin’s, a single donation can be the difference between an ordinary Tuesday and the worst day of their lives.
We’ve partnered with the Red Cross to make sure every drop goes where it’s needed most.

Why This Matters
You don’t have to know someone with sickle cell to save their life.
But chances are, you already do. Sickle cell affects thousands of families right here in Pennsylvania. Many of them are children. Many of them are your neighbors.
Blood doesn’t care about politics or borders. It just works. And when you give yours, you give someone’s son or daughter another chance to laugh, to learn, to play tag safely.
That’s not dramatic. That’s just true.
How You Can Help
So here’s what we’re asking:
Come to Goodwin Memorial Life Center on May 2nd. Roll up a sleeve. And give.
If you can’t donate blood, because of health, time, or any other reason, that’s okay. You can still help. Share this post. Tell a friend. Drive someone who needs a ride.
And if you feel called to support the foundation’s work beyond the blood drive, we welcome that too. Every gift helps us teach more schools, reach more families, and prevent more heartbreak.
But right now? The most important thing is showing up.
A Legacy That Lives On
Justin’s time on earth was short. But his legacy was never about time.
It’s about what we do next. Together.
When you give blood on May 2nd, you’re not just donating. You’re saying that another family doesn’t have to lose their Justin. You’re turning silence into action. Grief into hope.
Come be part of that story.
We’ll save you a seat. And maybe, just maybe, save a life together.
